Paintings are a way of keeping people, landscapes, essentially memories alive, right? What left me so mesmerized by these oil paintings is the blatant confrontation the artist is taking to that idea, as if history itself is erasing the memories, as if each time we look at it, another piece will be forgotten in the fragments of our past... it's just such an air of absolute mystery, I love it.

And then there's Chad Wys, who takes the traditional portraits of centuries before us, in all its posed perfection, and twists it into these eerily detailed paintings lacking in the boldest of ways, begging us to look at it in another light.

The Purpose of Long Weekends

This utopic scene may have made an appearance way back in the day but it's just so soothing. Couldn't resist. It's flirting with my desire to leave all the work I've conveniently left until today to get through and instead to slip away for a few hours in its endless amounts of pillows and sheets.

Treehouse swag, yo. Straight up. Looks like a clan of gypsies would live here, and I'm assuming they'd get along with me so I could live here too.

The darkness is hugging you in this room. Book lovers must be crying tears of joy right about now.

What a whimsical idea. And it's true, how often are you asked what animal you would be? Not every other day? Oh, how odd.

No, I kid. We don't still have the minds of elementary school students. Yes, we do. However, when I am asked, I take it seriously. This animal represents what I will be in my next life. This casual question? It's IMPORTANT. I can control DESTINY. 

I've decided that if I were to be a bird, I'd be the painted bunting. To be able to fly would be too cool to pass on. But then I think about the amount of worms and flies I'd have to digest. So I change my mind to a fox. Foxes are so suave, just love 'em.
